Penance (A Poem)

Penance
I don’t like the way
you keep questioning me.
I’ve only known you 13 years.
The most likliest outcome
is that we might
– in some sort of  fantasy
of daring to love again after a divorce –
discover that,
in some odd way
bordering on morbid,
we’ve fallen in love
when we swore up and down
we’d kill ourselves
before we ever did that again.
You’ ve sinned.
You’ve led me into love.
Three Hail Mary’s,
one Novena
and a French Kiss
for you mister.
