When The Moon Was Blue (A Poem)

When The Moon Was Blue

You knocked upon my door
for something
some reason
some need
or desire.
What was it?
How may I help you?
Don’t be frightened.
Take my heart.
I’ll grow another
and give that one to you
too.
Shake the trees
shading my hiding place
until the apples have all fallen
to hell.
Then come back for candy.
What was it?
How may I help you –
or have you forgotten
that I could?
