Those Ivy League Blues

Another installment of  Friday Fictioneers  hosted by Rochelle.  100 words or so based on the image below.  Click on the lil frog icon (after this piece) and come join us!

I sat with this all day.  It’s not a story.  It’s not even 100 words.  But this is where the photograph took me so…I’m gonna go with it…

Those Ivy League Blues

The last thing she’d thought about
realistically
was that she couldn’t fly
but that some people could.
Some people even wanted to.

The train tracks
were near
yet she kept on.
Sometimes
she tried to cheat life
but it always won
in the end.

All that wasted ivy
dying on some vine.

    • Hi Rochelle ~
Thanks for reading twice and still coming back to comment 😛 She’s still dying – just like the rest of us…perhaps more aware of that. I had to fight my initial thought – to just have her die.

    • I’m grateful to read this, Patrick. When I’d finished this piece I realized all the many directions it could take – even though I meant one particular direction. I’m experimenting, lately, with this sort of poetry and finding it very rewarding.
