Morning’s Slumber – A Love Poem

Morning’s Slumber

Is there really that heaven
that choir
where birdsong and harp
accompany spirits
voices softly
remembering bodies
dancing within
and between
stones and statues?

And when the stars shine
love birds nested for the night
offering one last cooing
kiss to Day,
is there really that heaven
that sheer canopy
of protection
glowing in the darkness?

I’ve heard all this
and more
is true
and so when you
brushed against my life
that night
and whispered me awake
next morning
it was true.
