It Rained Early That Year – A Love Poem

It’s August, right?  And guess what?  We’re having a thunder and lightning/rain storm here is Silicon Valley California in August.  Very strange but…we’ll take what we can get.

It Rained Early That Year

That August
when it rained all night
and a grey sky dressed itself all up
with silvery sparkles
now
that was a powerful August
– not because it rained all night
but that it rained at all in August
naked on the balcony.

    • Oh my god, yes! The fires! Several years ago – along the coastline near Mendocino – I saw a partially burned redwood forest. Charred black redwood stumps 😦 My husband told me it was from a fire several years before. There was a low new green growth coming back.

I don’t know where that ‘naked on the balcony’ part came from, but I’ve left it in because it feels mysterious.

You may be interested to know that I am almost finished with ‘Savage Beauty’ Nanbiography of Edna St Vincent Millay – by Nancy Milford. She’s a great biographer. Next biography I’ll read will be “Zelda” by the same author.

      Hope allz well,
