That Watershed Moment

On the way
to our bedroom you pass by
and kiss me
with that
come to bed when you can kiss.
Your skin is warm
against my cheek
and your blue eyes sparkle
in the low evening lighting
Before I can touch
your face
you are gone
and all the space
you filled
is empty and still.

  1. Beautifully done, Ellespeth. 🙂 The emptiness of the ending gives a real sense of foreboding, especially with the ephemeral nature of his presence, making the poem a sweet glimpse of a loving relationship whilst also creating a sense of loss and pain.
