Blessing Horses Asses – Fiction

Back from vacation…  🙂

Time again for Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers.  Thanks to PJ for hosting this weekly challenge.  please follow little froggy for more stories.

Here is the photo and my story…

Blessing Horses Asses

the arrival “Maybelle, you know Parson Jim isn’t going to let you into the chapel drunk as you are,” Deacon Dean whispered.

“Now you look here, Dean,” Maybelle whispered back not so softly. “You just go tell Jim I’m here.”

Maybelle huffed and walked back to her horse.

She waited.

She waited a good while before Parson Jim walked out the parsonage with a basket of wet laundry and began to hang it, piece by piece, onto the clothesline.

“Good to see you, Maybelle.”  He waved in her general direction.

Maybelle waved back.

“Have you named your horse yet?”

“I think I finally have.” Maybelle took the horse’s reins and walked up to Parson Jim.

“Oh! I’m glad to hear it! What’s the name?”

Maybelle reached into the clothes basket. She handed Jim a pillow case. “Horses Asses.”

“Now that’s a fine name for a racehorse,” he said.

“I thought so, too.”

“Filled with so many possibilities.” Parson Jim walked up to Maybelle’s horse.  He stroked its snout.  He kissed it.

“That, too,” she said.

This week’s photo prompt is provided by Phylor.

  1. I was also very curious about their history and what happens next. And I wonder if she’ll still love that name (and still agree that there are so many possibilities with it) when she’s sober lol. Great take of the prompt.
