Poetry Reading #2 – What I Didn’t Say Enough Today – A Love Poem

A few other blogs I follow are doing poetry readings so…I thought I’d put up another poetry reading this afternoon…then I’ll be back.  I have some ideas brewing.

What I Didn’t Say Enough Today – A Love Poem

Just in case
some corner of our world
stops twirling
and the centering point
bursts into chaos,
I have loved you.
Regardless
of some yesterday’s slight,
I love you still today
while  spring prances and preens
about to bloom
and winter fights its losing battles
Tomorrow
I shall love you still
when the sun creeps over the window sill
and a warm golden ray
plays in your red hair
as you sleep beside me
in a morning dream.
And on and on
into the echo of forever
I shall love you still.

Sale on White Laced Handkerchiefs – A Poem

Sooo…usually on Monday – sometimes Friday…or another day – we sit on the balcony late afternoon.  We drink champagne and read to one another from the diaries and works of Anaïs Nin.  This afternoon….this came to me…

Sale on White Laced Handkerchiefs
I want to say some
things
before they may no longer matter.
I’ve loved
at best
my better half and
my better half
loved me.
So…I shall surely pay
at least a dime
for each of your kisses.
Bring on the white laced handkerchiefs.
Dab
dab.
Thank you
please
don’t stop.
Dab
dab.
There we go again.
Dab
dab
please don’t stop.

A Poet’s Working Dream

I’ve Been Editing

This seems like something interesting to share.  Maybe …

Thoughts on last evening’s posy blog entry http://wp.me/p37v4b-2ur    (now fixed)I’m repeating words too many times:

Late this afternoon/we walked to the market/A grey and brooding cloud covered sky/had been wind swept into a brilliant blue/and golden sun afternoon/And children’s kites looped and played/streaming their tails this way and that/until one floated down/its tail brushing softly against your cheek.

When I’m writing a poem, I don’t like to use the same word too many times.  If I’m going to spend time making a poem out of a blob of words, I want every word to count and flow into the next word like a river.

When I woke up this morning, I was very dissatisfied with A Prosey Lovey Posey…not only was the word and in there too many times, but the word posy was misspelled Posey.  Out of 43 words, the word and was used 5 times.  There seemed to be no way of fixing it.  I had coffee and a breakfast of yogurt and granola something.  I took out all the ands and switched up grey and brooding.  I like how it moves now and how the ends of the lines – as they are laid on the paper – sort of fall into the next lines.  There’s still an and in there.

So here’s where the posy is now.  I’ve fixed it in the original post too:

Year 'Round Thanksgiving Project

My latest baby has been born – And early too (our projected release date was April 1 – it was a lengthy labor but not too painful. And, I’ve forgotten all about that stuff anyway.

My latest poetry collection is a collaboration with Kirsten A. and is titled Voices of Nature. It features poems of many different poetry forms. Check it out – the Kindle version is only $.99 and the paperback version is $7.59.

Your support is always appreciated and I would love to spread the word on our new book. Reviews are appreciated as well. Working together with another poet was fun and I could not have chosen anyone more compatible to collaborate with. You can also follow my poetry blog here

You can see Kirsten’s blog here, along with one of her sample poems from the book.

When I Became an Author

Drum roll please! The Home Fire is finally here! Whew! What a long road to publication this little book has had! First written nearly three years ago, it sat-alone and forgotten-for months and months before I began re-writing it. Then came the always fun editing stage, cover design, formatting, and publication date (okay, so maybe not exactly in that order).

So I am very glad I am finally finished with this book. It is a good feeling, to reach a finish line, for sure. Now, I can only pray that no mistakes will be brought to my attention, giving me reason to do any more work on this book. As much as I love each and every one of my books, I only want to have to re-write them once. Don’t get me wrong, spending time with the little bundles of joy is a wonderful thing…unless I’m editing for the…

So So Grown Up (A Poem)

So So Grown Up

I’ll have a colonoscopy
on Friday at eleven
so I just can’t wait for Thursday
and the prep I’ll start at seven.
A powder mixed with water
– chilled –
that smells like dirty epsom salt
and works like Drano does on pipes.
This must be someone’s fault!
Stay tuned for daily updates as
the dreaded day draws near –
it’s not the colonoscopy
it’s that damned prep I fear.
