Merrit Malloy and Rod McKuen – Poets Who Freed Me

It was in the 1970’s.  I wanted to write poetry like Merrit Malloy and Rod McKuen.  They were very much criticized – in their day…that made me like them even more.  Any poet my college professors didn’t like I, of course, wondered why and read their works for years.  I guessed, eventually, that college professors don’t think poets should make money  writing poetry.  But, they did….
