Time again for Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers. Thanks to PJ for hosting this weekly challenge. please follow little froggy for more stories.
Here is the photo and my story…
“What?” Harriet asked.
Harriet and Sue had finally found a table at the Cafe Du Monde. They ordered beignets and two coffees.
“I don’t think Blake loves me anymore,” Sue repeated. “He doesn’t seem to pay attention to me.”
“You mean like he did when you first married?” Harriet glanced at Sue.
Something knowing passed between them. Something that remained unspoken.
“No,” Sue said.
She meant yes but she couldn’t say yes because that could be mistakenly interpreted and open her up to possibilities she didn’t, herself, understand just yet.
The waiter brought their order. For a few minutes, they ate in silence. All around them, other diners – some of them noisy – probably tourists, snapped pictures and laughed happily.
“What did you expect?” Harriet asked.
“I don’t know.”
But that wasn’t true. Sue had expectations, she just hadn’t defined them yet.

thanks to Yinglan for our photo this week
Nice story. It took me a minute to get they were dogs talking about dogs (is this right?) Well written.

Thanks. I’m just seeing your comment 😦
This one was a bit off. Not many people understood it It wasn’t dogs talking. I’m chuckling at myself. I truly get carried away with these photographs.
I’m happy that, at least, you liked the writing itself.

She is apparently unhapppy about her situation, but not sure exactly what is going on. Maybe he pays more attention to the dogs (although not mentioned in the story)….not sure how the photo fits into this story. It’s nice that she has a friend to share her problems with..whatever they are.

yes. PJ didn’t get the connection either. One dog ignoring the other dog. A stretch for sure …

Great story, Ellespeth, but I’m confused as to what this has to do with the photo prompt. Is Sue a dog?

One of the dogs is ignoring the other one. Maybe too far off base

I like the scene of them eating, Sue with her problems, while around them life goes on as normal.

If there even are problems…the lives of others go on even when someone else’s life might be falling apart. That’s comforting to me.
