I wrote this for this week’s Friday Fictioneers led by Rochelle A 100 word (or so) story based on the photo prompt below. Come join us!
Buck was there to salvage. Maybe the old house. Maybe himself. Cypress rafters and flooring were all that was left. He’d taken some rope.
“Buck?” Sissy was calling back.
“Yeah. The communication systems suck since the storm.” Buck dropped the rope.
“Where are you, Buck?” Sissy sounded furious. “And don’t hang up on me this time.”
“The old place.” He looked up at a rafter. “Not much left of it. The cypress. Someone should salvage the cypress.”
“Look, I’m headed over there and you’d better be there.”
Buck was there holding onto a piece of rope and talking about salvaging cypress.

That rope — I just hope it’s not what you would use from a rafter.. or Sissy better be quick…

Ellespeth, Good story. Sissy sounds like she can reason with Buck and he’ll listen. He’s probably lost in memories of that old place and wants to salvage some of it. Well written. 🙂 —Susan

If Sissy can’t reason with him – geez…I won’t know what to do next! You’re right, he’s probably lost in all of it. Thanks for passing by to read and for your comment.

It must be scary to be so sad – I can only imagine. Yes, there will be more from Sissy and Buck. On Friday Fictioneers and also on my blog, http://flirtingwiththemoon.wordpress.com/
I’m doing NaNoWriMo, in July, and Buck and Sissy seem to be my project.
Thank you for passing by and reading my work. I hope to see more of you.

I so admire those who do NaNoWriMo…I don’t have the discipline with work and having 3 blogs …good on you for that though, I look forward to reading more.

I hope Sissy gets there in time to salvage Buck. At least, that’s the feel I got from your story. I liked it.

She’ll get there. There’s too much history for it to be otherwise. Maybe 😛 I’m happy you liked it and thankful for your comment.

Beautifully subtle. You leave so much for us to work out about Sissy and Buck and what Buck might or might not be planning. Lovely.
